Mastère Spécialisé Développement des Systèmes Spatiaux (DSS)

Course Details

Objectives : The Specialized Master's in Space Systems Development (DSS) complements the existing offer with a Bac+6 level training course, aimed at engineers or Master's degree holders, already graduated from fields such as electronics, IT, materials or mechanics (non-exhaustive list) and who wish to acquire the additional skills to meet the needs expressed below and in particular the systems, quality and project management aspects specific to the space sector, in particular nano-satellites dedicated to environmental observation.

Public concerned : Initial training
Continuing training
Open to professionalization contracts
Training of groups of learners within the framework of international agreements

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Admission requirements : Bac + 5 years
M1 + three years seniority

Prerequisites : Scientific training in the fields of electronics, IT, materials or mechanics (non-exhaustive list)

Acquired skills during the training : The activities may be carried out in space agencies, design offices, research centers, service providers, companies, manufacturers or start-ups. Each will provide support in project management and product development processes (design/production/validation of equipment, instruments, onboard and ground segment subsystems of space systems).

Due to the diversity of projects and actors brought together, space activities can cover a wide variety of fields in which specialists will bring their expertise. Three major disciplines are identified: Project Management, Product Assurance and Engineering.

Targeted careers : System engineering, expertise, design and AIT professions as:
o Framework of space agencies
o Executives at Primes du Spatial (Thalès Alenia Space, Airbus DS, OHB, Ariane Group, etc.)
o Managers at tier 1 and 2 subcontractors (Latécoère)
o Executives in engineering companies (EXPLEO)

Duration and terms : 1 year
The selection of candidates is carried out by an admissions jury after studying the file. If necessary, candidates selected on file will be called for interviews.

Final admission will only be pronounced when a host company has committed to signing a continuing training contract (professionalization contract or continuing training agreement).

Notes : According to the Aeronautics and Space Industries Group (GIFAS), 8,000 jobs are unfilled in the Space sector in France, which results in a 12% loss of turnover for the companies concerned. The objective of the training is to allow BAC+5 graduates to train for space careers through training covering the entire V-cycle from mission analysis to Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT). This coverage differentiates it from other Bac+6 training courses generally provided and which mainly cover expertise and systems engineering professions. It corresponds perfectly to the common approach of Polytech Montpellier and the IUT of Nîmes, which advocate a fair balance between knowledge and know-how, so appreciated by industrial employers.
