Objectives : Designed for students with a passion for aircraft and spacecraft propulsion systems, IPSA's Master of Science (MSc) Aerospace Propulsion is a programme of excellence. Its aim: To train the aerospace experts of tomorrow, integrating the latest technological advances, environmental issues and the new challenges facing the aerospace industry. This cutting-edge training, developed in collaboration with major players in the sector, is part of our engineering school's determination to meet the challenges linked to technical skills in this strategic field.
Public concerned : The MSc in Aerospace Propulsion is open to students with a degree at Bac+4 level or equivalent in engineering(aerospace, mechanical, energy) or the physical sciences.
Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)
Admission requirements : You can apply directly on the IPSA website. You will need to submit an application file containing your CV, a covering letter and your academic record from the last two years. Once your application has been validated, you will have to sit a number of multiple-choice tests, as well as a summary interview and a motivational interview.
Please note: as the programme is taught in English, fluency in English is a prerequisite.
Prerequisites : When you apply, you have several options:
Entry to the 1st year, initial and in English: after a Bac+3 (180 ECTS), obtained in France or abroad, in a scientific field (IT, mechanics, electronics, electricity, telecommunications, etc.).
Enter the 2nd year, in English and on an initial basis: after a Bac+4 or Bac+5 in science.
Acquired skills during the training : The Master of Science in Aerospace Propulsion has four main objectives.
Training the technical experts of tomorrow
Over the two years of the MSc, students acquire in-depth expertise in propulsion technologies, including jet engines, solid and liquid propellant engines, electric motors and hybrid systems. They also learn to master numerical simulation and engine design tools, as well as advanced experimental methods.
Meeting environmental challenges
As a company with a mission, keen to support the transformation of the aeronautics sector, IPSA is naturally keen to integrate environmental issues and the reduction of CO2 emissions into its training courses. This is why the programme gives a key place to emerging and sustainable technologies, such as electric propulsion, hydrogen or even biofuels.
Encouraging innovation
Lectures and tutorials to acquire all the theoretical knowledge; projects, design offices and practical work to develop specific practical skills and consolidate analytical and summarising skills.
Thanks to a teaching approach based on research and innovation, students are encouraged to develop new solutions for more efficient, reliable and environmentally-friendly propulsion systems. By the end of their course, they will be specialists capable of pushing back the boundaries of innovation.
An international outlook
Training in aerospace propulsion has a strong international dimension. Courses are taught in English, so students can practise Shakespeare's language, which has become the language of research and collaboration between countries. During the two years, students also have the opportunity to undertake work placements in research laboratories or companies located in the four corners of the world, giving them significant professional experience that is recognised both in France and abroad.
Targeted careers : Graduates of the MSc Aerospace Propulsion are destined to become key players in the aerospace industry, both in large groups and in more specialised structures. Possible careers include
Propulsion engineer: design, simulation and optimisation of aerospace engines.
R&D manager: development of new propulsion technologies, innovations in green propulsion.
Aerospace project manager: management of complex propulsion-related projects within large companies or innovative start-ups.
Engineering consultant: expertise in the energy performance and optimisation of propulsion systems.
Duration and terms : This two-year programme consists of a core curriculum in aerospace engineering and specialist modules in propulsion. Among the courses and activities you will be able to follow during your studies:
Propulsion systems and fluid dynamics: study of thermal engines (turbines, rocket engines) and analysis of advanced propulsion systems.
Engine simulation and design: use of modelling and simulation software to design new spacecraft engines.
Electric and hybrid propulsion: discovery of emerging technologies in space and electric propulsion.
Advanced materials and manufacturing methods: analysis of high-performance materials used in engines and additive manufacturing techniques.
Environmental issues and sustainable energy: examining and researching sustainable solutions in the field of propulsion, such as green fuels and low-emission systems.
